MEET MARLANE
Kia ora e te whanau (Hi Family) Marlane is the name bestowed upon me at birth.
I am Māori, of Te Kapotai descent from Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Being Māori shapes how I understand what is carried through generations, how I listen and how I recognise when something does not belong to the individual alone. I didn’t arrive here through theory or trend. This path grew out of my birth, whakapapa (ancestral lineage) lived experience and long personal practice. I’ve had to meet many inherited patterns directly in my own life. Through family, identity, rupture, responsibility and choice. These experiences shape how I now sit with others and this is ever evolving. Not everything the body holds began with you. Some of it is inherited through family, upbringing, what you learned to carry quietly, lives lived before this current iteration, energetic connections and of course from the choices and decision we make (or don’t) in this life time. In Te Ao Māori (the Maori worldview), this is understood through mauri — life force, the core of who you are, shaped through whakapapa, experience and what is passed down. What happens here is about releasing what has been layered on top of that core over time.
